Audio Testing Made Simple and Powerful

Analysis and test of audio components such as hearing aids, headsets, telephones and transducers may prove difficult and cumbersome. However, with HearMASTER 4.0 audio testing and analysis has become easy and straightforward. The task-oriented user-interfaces make test programming simple and fast, supporting a high confidence level in measurements of audio units. At the same time, the HearMASTER system solution lends itself well towards electrical testing of units, e.g. during sub-assembly.

Partnering with worldwide leading manufacturers of hearing aids and headsets as well as test instrumentation, we have nurtured and optimized an audio test solution that is ahead of the competition in terms of user-friendliness, ease-of-use, performance and cost-of-ownership. Individual tests are quickly set up in an intuitive manner in just a few clicks, and the task-oriented approach ensures high confidence in the individual modes of test.

Not only is the system fast and flexible to employ during developments of test applications and in validation testing, but it also offers highly optimized performance during production testing in terms of accuracy and high throughput.

Open System Architecture

HearMASTER is developed using LabVIEW®, and its open architecture allows users to integrate own developments in the general system framework. It utilizes a multi-hardware concept. In the general solutions it employs a PC-system, a National Instruments PCI measurement module as well as a dedicated instrumentation box. This solution is highly efficient for audio as well as electrical testing of e.g. hearing aids and headset. An alternative solution is to use the AUDIOmaster solution, which is a customized system having an embedded computer, and all measurement hardware built into one box. This system solution is well suited for acoustical testing of hearing aids, headsets, etc., and it fits well into environments such as R&D labs, small volume production and high volume production. The software for HearMASTER is fully compatible for the two solutions and is well proven through widespread industrial use.

The HearMASTER system features advanced signal generating capabilities of an audio generator combined with measurement/analysis capabilities of a digital signal processing based audio analyzer. A number of highly efficient DSP processing features is available for mixed signal test. Using industry standard concepts such as LabVIEW, Win 32, PCI bus, etc., the HearMASTER solution provides an open, user friendly approach, which improves return on investment and easy upgrading of a given system. The first HearMASTER solutions emerged in 1994.

The HearMASTER system can be delivered as a run time version or a development version for use with LabVIEW.

Test Sequencing

HearMASTER includes an advanced test sequencer, SequenTEST, for production setup of complete test programs. The sequencer is based on LabVIEW and the user may extend the functionality by adding new. This makes HearMASTER the perfect system for solutions with specific requirements.

We have simplified analog testing greatly though the use of an advanced, but simple-to-use set of limiter functions. It extends the normal approach of using limiters or envelopes by adding a broad range of new functionalities.

Limiter functions such as tunnel limiters, point limiters, and window limiters, as well as combinations of above, are available. A limiter function may be programmed to yield a fixed limiter function or a floating limiter. The latter focus on test of signal shapes having tight tolerances, and at the same time it allows for production tolerances of devices within pre-defined limits.

Calibration

The calibration compensates for the system's nonlinear behavior. The calibration procedure is used mainly for acoustic measurements and it collects information about microphone sensitivity, frequency response, response of the measurement chamber and gains setting of the amplifiers. After the system is calibrated the calibration can be used to automatically compensate for the following measurements. Multiple calibrations are supported if for example transducers are changed during a sequence of measurements.

Applications

The HearMASTER system is well suited for test and validation measurements of:

  • Hearing aids
  • Headsets
  • Loudspeakers
  • Audiometers
  • Telephones

Ordering Information

Standard solutions are available for three domains, i.e. hearing aid testing, headset testing and loudspeaker testing. Furthermore, focused solutions can be obtained, tailored to individual needs of customers, e.g. if a complete bluetooth headset validations required, or if a hearing aid calls upon dedicated programming link options, etc.

The test solutions support production testing as well as laboratory testing, e.g. engineering tests.
