Mixed-signal testing has until recently been a costly and complex issue, either reserved for the few organisations that could afford the expensive, highly versatile types of mixed-signal ATE systems or left to restricted, often difficult-to-use ad hoc test solutions.

However, the advent of virtual instrumentation, including a wide spread utilisation of easy-to-use graphical user interfaces, combined with the use of open, modular and flexible hardware systems solutions like VXI and PCI, is paving the way for a revolution in mixed-signal testing.

The system architecture is based on standard VXIbus and GPIB instrumentation technology where a number of standard subsystems can be combined into a customized test system that fulfills the needs of the user. The system is controlled from a unique set of software components.
